Under the patronage and supervision of the respectable Dean: Prof. Dr. Firas Abd al-Razzaq Hamza, the Continuing Education Unit, -in cooperation with the Media and Government Communication Division and the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit in our college- in 2024, held a symposium entitled (Mechanisms to Combat Drug Abuse according to the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017), participated in the symposium: Prof. Dr. Amal Fadel Abd: Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, . Asst.Prof. Dr. Nawras Rashid Taha: Lecturer in our college, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hassan Nasser: Lecturer in the College of Medicine / Al-Nahrain University – Head of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, Legal Advisor Hassan Youssef Al-Tamimi: Director of Media and Relations in the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, and the two students Hawraa Haider Abd Al-Wahab and Hawraa Firas Abd al-Razzaq contributed to preparing panels on combating drugs, considering that combating the phenomenon of drugs requires the cooperation of all elements of society, including students, professors, doctors and officials in the security agencies, to reduce the negative effects The phenomenon of drug abuse.

The symposium aimed to:

1- Raising awareness and educating students about the causes, dangers and harms of drugs on the body of the user and addict.
2- Shedding light on the texts of punitive responses to drug use and disposal contained in the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017.
3- Explaining the role played by the Drug Control Directorate in combating drug trafficking, promotion, acquisition and possession.
4- The modern judiciary’s approach to treating users and addicts by throwing them into treatment and rehabilitation centers instead of placing them in prisons and mixing them with convicts who have committed drug trafficking and promotion crimes.
5- Explaining the necessary social limitation measures to combat the negative effects of drugs that debilitate the life of victims.
The symposium contributed significantly to achieving the awareness goals required for college students to protect them from falling into the abyss of drug abuse.
